Give Well.

Make a Difference.

There are many different ways to give with the Auckland Foundation.

You can start with a small gift, or large, or you can leave a bequest in your will. Alternatively regular giving can quickly build up to something substantial and you can even add your gift to those of other generous Aucklanders.

To find out more about giving, choose your scenario below.

Giving for Individuals & Families

For you and your family, the Auckland Foundation has a range of easy, efficient and effective giving options. With our knowledge, reach and expertise, we help maximise the impact you can make.

You may want to give across a broad range of causes, or perhaps there is an issue, passion or local area that interests you. You may simply want to know about philanthropy before you get started. Whatever your needs, we can help.

Before you get started.

Learn about philanthropy with us. We can design a tailored programme that brings to life your values and is structured just the way you want.

Setting up your own fund.

You can start small and build up a fund over time. Once you reach $50,000 you can begin grant making, or keep building it up.

With a bequest or donation of more than $50,000, you can get started straight away and name the fund after your family or a loved one.

Every size of donation is welcome at the Auckland Foundation. An easy and effective way is to simply make a gift, large or small, one-off or regular, into the Auckland Fund. We use our knowledge of what is happening in Auckland’s communities, to ensure grants go where they are most needed and will have the biggest impact.

Leaving a gift in your will – a bequest – is a popular way to give. Consider 10% of your estate – an amount your other beneficiaries won’t miss. Bequests come in all sizes and forms, and we also welcome assets other than money.

You may simply like to use the Auckland Foundation to manage your charitable donations, tapping into our expertise on Auckland and grant making, and allowing you to remain anonymous if you so wish. We can undertake research in a cause you are interested in and inform your giving plan.

We’d love to talk to you about your giving needs. Please call or email

Giving for Charitable Trusts & Foundations

We provide a range of options for established or new foundations. You might be considering outsourcing part or all of your grant making, or putting your endowment in professional hands and getting it off your balance sheet. We are the ideal place to resettle trusts that have become dormant, or have become too much work to actively manage.

We support a variety of partners in these ways, through resettlement, project work, or by providing a tailored package where you can benefit from our knowledge, reach and expertise. You may have an established strategy and be seeking help with the implementation. You may be reviewing plans and seeking advice on where to focus future support. Or with concerns about sustainability, you may be looking to wind up your trust and find a guardian of the assets to continue to fulfil its objectives.

Either way, the Auckland Foundation has a range of flexible options suited to your circumstances and has partnered with a range of organisations including not-for-profits, private trusts and major grant makers such as The Tindall Foundation, to meet these needs.

Giving for Businesses

Whether you have an established plan or are newer to structured giving, we can offer you a simple, flexible and effective way of making a difference.

Many organisations want to make a positive difference in the communities they operate in, but don’t know where to start. Auckland Foundation can make it straight-forward and can do the smart work upfront to help you target the benefit exactly where you want.

We have a particular expertise at helping people reach the smaller charities and community projects – groups that are often unseen but do amazing work.

With our grant making expertise we can take care of what can be a time consuming and challenging area, when it’s not your day to day business. You may need some research done that is tailored to your business and its stakeholders, or the locality you operate in. We can undertake this and make recommendations on the best way to proceed. We have considerable experience in working with businesses on their giving and would love to help you achieve your goals.

Company funds build to $50,000 before granting begins and many businesses encourage their staff to donate and then match those donations, aligning team and business interests and impact.

Auckland Foundation can also facilitate grant making elsewhere in New Zealand and overseas.

Collective Giving

Collective Giving is the coming together of people to build a fund and make change happen. In addition to the benefits of networking and peer support, the ability to scale up the impact of each individual’s contribution is incredibly powerful.

Giving together with others can be a lot of fun and hugely rewarding.

Giving Circles are groups of people with a cause in common – eg public art, or disadvantaged children – who come together regularly, learn about their area of interest and ultimately decide where their grants will be made.

Collective Funding Events, modelled on ‘Dragons Den’-style pitching and investment are also gaining popularity. Auckland Foundation has supported “The Funding Network” to get off the ground here in New Zealand, which is proving a popular way to have fun giving and learning more about community needs and the groups fulfilling them.

Impact100, where 100 people come together and donate $2,000 a year, is also getting started here in Auckland. Impact groups raise $200,000 per year, through individual donations.

They place half in an endowment, and give the other half away as a single grant – making a huge impact on an organisation’s ability to reach its goals. It’s a mega giving circle, making a mega difference.
