Tens of thousands of Aucklanders were affected by the weather disasters in January/February 2023 and the long-term impact on their lives is still only coming to light. There remains over 1,800 displaced households, circa 10,000+ displaced individuals.

The Auckland Together Fund is partnering with experienced organisations providing frontline support for vulnerable and in need communities across Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland. The impact of the storms on already vulnerable communities means focus is needed on providing wraparound support and tools to help whānau and communities lift themselves up and thrive.

Pillars of Support
Environment
This pillar supports initiatives that build a more sustainable and resilient Auckland. This includes investing in green infrastructure that delivers long-term value, enhances environmental quality, and strengthens the city’s ability to adapt to change. It also aims to inspire Aucklanders to become active stewards of their natural surroundings, making everyday choices that protect and sustain the environment for future generations.
Education, training & research
The Education, training & research pillar is dedicated to creating opportunities for learning and growth at every stage of life. It supports initiatives that help Aucklanders gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed, particularly those who face the greatest barriers. By fostering educational achievement, lifelong learning and accessible training, this pillar aims to build a more inclusive, capable and empowered community.
Arts, culture & heritage
This pillar seeks to preserve and celebrate Auckland’s unique cultural identity. It supports efforts to protect the region’s heritage from further loss, ensuring that the stories, traditions and creative expressions that define Auckland are safeguarded for future generations. Through this work, the pillar helps strengthen community connections and pride in the city’s diverse cultural landscape.
Family & community wellbeing
The Family & community wellbeing pillar focuses on building stronger, more connected communities. It supports initiatives that create safe and welcoming spaces where people can come together, participate in local activities and feel a sense of belonging. By encouraging connection and engagement in community and civic life, this pillar helps foster wellbeing, inclusion and resilience across Auckland’s diverse neighbourhoods.

Response / recovery funds
The Response / recovery funds pillar provides vital support to communities during times of crisis and in the rebuilding that follows. Focused on community and social recovery, it helps Aucklanders respond to and recover from major events such as the 2022 Auckland storm. By funding initiatives that restore wellbeing, strengthen resilience and reconnect communities, this pillar ensures Auckland can recover stronger and more united after hardship.

Sport & recreation
The Sport and Recreation pillar invests in the facilities and spaces that help Aucklanders stay active, healthy and connected. By supporting the development of sports fields, indoor courts and pools, this pillar enables more people to participate in recreation and sport at every level. These projects not only promote physical wellbeing but also strengthen community spirit and provide opportunities for inclusion and enjoyment across the region.
